Alf Wileman dedicated his entire life to service through the Salvation Army at the Sheffield Citadel Corps and in the South Yorkshire region
Alf was a very gifted musician but his testimony was always that he was called by God to use that gift as a Salvation Army Bandsman. He lived that calling throughout his life.

He served as Bandsman in Sheffield Citadel Band for almost 80 years, where he was also YP Bandleader for 23 years. He led Brass at the South Yorkshire Music School for 22 years and was South Yorkshire Divisional Youth Band Leader for 12 years.

His big passion was young people. He loved to teach them music, both within the Salvation Army and through his paid work as a peripatetic music teacher with Sheffield Music Service. Many people to this day attest to his influence on their life being their inspiration for taking up music.

But it wasn't just his music teaching that impacted people. He was a kind and gentle man who always encouraged people to be the best that they could be and made them feel better about themselves by being in his presence.

Alf was Promoted to Glory on 17th February 2024 at the grand old age of 96. A life lived in service to his Lord, who he loved more than anything else.

Alf's family would love for any money raised from this page to go towards supporting the Yorkshire School of Christian Arts, which is a residential Summer Camp for young people with a connection to the Salvation Army in Yorkshire. Alf dedicated many years of his life to events like this so it would be a fitting tribute to his legacy to support this event.
